Our Roots

The 1950's

Pugh's Garden Village started life as S.Pugh and Son Garden Centre and is named after it's founder Sydney Pugh. He founded Wenallt Nurseries behind his family home on an acre plot in Wenallt Road Rhiwbina. This became locally famous for Tomatoes and Veg, bedding plants and milk from a small dairy.

1960's

The business, now shared with Sydney's son Colin Pugh took the decision to sell and relocate to Morganstown, Radyr providing a more modern offering of home grown bedding plants, tree's and shrubs from a bigger site. This became established as Ty Nant Nurseries during the 1970's and Colin's wife Winnie Pugh came on board to help sell to the local community.

1980's

With the business growing and in full swing Colin and Winnie's two son's Graham and Ian joined and the garden centre went from strength to strength, expanding across the 80's and 90's adding a 3 acre Plant Nursery's in Caerphilly which enabled us to retain our home grown values.

2000's

The beginning of the millennium saw Graham and Ian purchase Wenvoe Garden Centre and set up Style Gardens. From this day forward we have seen a constant enhancement across both sites, developing them into two modern day Garden Villages; whilst still retaining the core values set up by Sydney and Colin Pugh all those years ago.

Where we are today...

Today the garden village concept offers a completely unique shopping experience with the garden centre itself still very much remaining at the heart. With a plethora of local and national brands the concept has been recognised both locally and nationally for it's truly innovative format. Once we had redeveloped with Mountain Warehouse, Robinsons Equestrian, Maidenhead Aquatics, Pampurred Pets, Dragon Reptiles, Bridges Vets, Barkers Groomer's, the Ty Nant Farm shop, Cotton Traders and Brantano we needed to pull it all together with the development of a new entrance to the main garden centre and village along with a second floor of offices.

We believe our strength lies in the fact we are very much a family run business (with three generations now involved) and the depth of knowledge our staff can offer our family of loyal customers.
