The Plant Area

Our team of smiling shrub superiors, the planting pros, the green-fingered gurus, are all here to answer your questions, give you the best advice for your garden and even help you carry those heavier items to the till and even to your car!

From spring to winter, we can cater for all your plant requirements.  If it’s a splash of colour you want, there is an array of bedding plants in our covered, canopy area.  So, even in a typical, British down pour, you’ll be able to take your time and browse at your leisure.

Our David Austin roses are renowned for their beauty and fragrance.  You’ll love ‘Lady Salisbury’, with its old type blooms and the Whartons, anniversary roses always make a popular gift.

If you want a plant to earn its keep, then a fruit tree may be for you.  The RHS award winning ‘Morello cherry’ is excellent in jams and the apple tree named ‘scrumptious’, truly, truly is!

If the weather allows us, we even like to hold an annual fruit tree festival so that you can try before you buy and taste the sweet treats these trees produce!

Our delicious range of herbs will have you searching for that long lost Jamie Oliver book and testing your culinary skills.

Rockery areas can be transformed with a combination of alpine plants and they won’t take long to get established. Just picture: vibrant, blue campanula, cascading down a wall, like a sea of colour.  It’s enough to take your breath away!

Of course, during December the canopy area looks a lot like a forest, with its award-winning expanse of Christmas trees, including the ever popular no-needle drop ‘Nordman fir’, which is transported to us from Ireland.  Lucky for us, these trees are of exceptional quality and fly out so quickly, even Santa would be envious!

The Woodlodge, Heritage range of pots are frost proof and look fabulous, when planted up.  A member of our shrubs team can plant up the perfect arrangement for you and for that something extra, why not consider under-planting with bulbs.

The National Trust pots are hand finished and inspiration for these derive from the founder, Octavia Hills’ belief that everyone needs beautiful views and green spaces, in order to be inspired, feel nourished and to grow.

A good compost will make all the difference to a plants health.  The traditional blend of Jacks Magic, enhances flower, fruit and vegetable quality, enriched with seaweed extract, the 100% natural compost is a firm favourite.

With so much choice, you may be unsure where to start, but fear not, as you can visit us in our shrub office, where we’ll be more than happy to help you, on a pathway to your ideal garden.
