1 – Getting your plant home
Make sure the plant is well protected from cold winds from the Garden Centre exit doors to your car and from your car to your home (Try to minimise how long your plant is in your car)
2 – Ideal conditions in your home
Warm, ideally between 15 C – 25C, (17 – 21 is perfect) and away from cold draughts or hot radiators/heaters.
Good light but not in direct strong sunlight, so on a table in a light position may be ideal.
3 – Watering
Check the compost with your fingertips every day, if the soil still feels damp it probably doesn’t need more water.
Wait until the soil surface starts to go dry before adding some more water. After watering, check to see if water has collected in the saucer or pot cover and tip out any remaining excess after 30 minutes as they hate to be left soaking wet. A light spray or mist of tepid water over the leaves can help every day or two.
4 – Feeding
Use Poinsettia fertilizer (or another high potash fertilizer like tomato feed) as per manufacturer’s instructions – usually once every week or two over winter.
5 – Long term after care
If you want to keep your Poinsettia growing for another year please ask a member of our houseplant team for some advice.
